I'm Dan Flowers of Muncie, Indiana. I have been a utility electrician for almost 8 years. Along the way, I believe that I influenced/inspired my brother Ryan to also become a tradesman. He recently completed his apprenticeship and has become a craft professional residential electrician.
During the last week of December, Ryan began feeling ill and stayed home from work. As expected during this pandemic, he got tested for COVID-19 and the results were negative. He assumed like most of us would that it must've just been some sort of flu, staying in bed and not able to eat much. On Tuesday January 5th, it became apparent to his girlfriend that something was really wrong, as she noticed his pale tone and inability to avoid a steady dizziness. His friend who is a nurse came over to check him out and immediately referred him to get to the hospital. Since being admitted into the Intensive Care Unit at IU Health Ball Memorial that night, he has had over a liter and a half of fluid drained from around his heart (400-500ml could kill you), as well as from around his lung. Also something about blood-clots in there. The medical staff had informed him that given the state at which he had arrived, that its a miracle he is still alive. The cause for the complications are still not clear. Ryan is now well enough to eat solid food now and communicate, but is having more fluid drained every 8 hours or so.
This absence from work will create a financial setback for my brother. There will most likely be a stack of medical bills and deductibles along w/the usual rent, utilities, groceries, car payments, etc. Currently there is no timetable for his return home, or even a full diagnosis so I cannot say how much of a burden this will be.
I would like to ask for your help. If you could make a donation for my brother to help offset the time he will be away from work and unexpected medical bills, it would really mean a lot to him and our family. Let's help get Ryan back on his feet!
