Mac is a 4 year old boy. Not an ordinary boy though! In 2012, at 18 months old, he was diagnosed with Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma. He underwent surgery, followed by chemotherapy, from September until February of 2013. On March 8th, we found out he was in remission and he still is today! Unfortunately, the chemo left him in severe pain. At first the doctors thought neuropathy from the chemo. This year though they sent us to a Neurologist, finally, and she ruled out any nerve damage. That sent us to Rheumatology. Dr. Graham, at Vandy, has diagnosed him with HyperMobility Joint Syndrome. He is one of those rare ones that has severe pain with it (extraordinary boy indeed!). He sent us to a Physical Therapist there, where they found he has no muscle tone to support those joints and ligaments. That is where the severe pain is coming from! With PT twice a week, aquatic therapy, and Hippotherapy they think his pain can be decreased from where it is now to around 40-50% less! Doesn't seem like much, but to him it would be! They think that may allow him to somewhat function like a normal child his age! He could finally run and play with his siblings! We meet with the owners of a place close to tour their facility, where he will be doing Hippotherapy. Insurance has already denied paying for it. So that brings us here. This is not just because PT is positive it will help, although that is a big factor, it is because we really feel this would benefit Mac. Mac has been in severe pain for 3 years now and I see the defeat, the hopelessness creeping into his face. He's slowly giving up. When we were at Give Kids the World, riding the horses was one of his favorite parts as he said it made him feel free. All donations will be used for his Hippotherapy, which has to be paid up front! Any help is greatly appreciated, even if it prayers or shares! After 3 years of suffering, we need our 'Super Mac' back and to get him back, we have to help him find that fight and determination he had when fighting cancer! We know it's still in there and feel God is guiding us in the right direction!
