Our Cause:
Pediatric Cancer
- 13,500 children are diagnosed with cancer each year in the United States, that's more than a classroom of children each day.
- 35,000 children are currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
- 25% of children that are diagnosed with cancer will not survive.
- 74% of pediatric cancer survivors have chronic illnesses.
- Less than 3% of the National Cancer Institute's budget is allocated to support Pediatric Cancer
This is our chance to not only raise awareness for pediatric cancer, but to defeat it completely.
Our Story:
We are a team. We work together on and off track, and since we are always striving to be the best, we are competitive in nature.
In other words, challenges and battles happen regularly, but when they're for a cause that's close to us they mean much more.
When driver of the No. 11 Local Motors Truck received a package of SpongeBob onesies (Onesie Definition), it turned into much more than just adult pajamas. This turned into an oppourtunity to help raise awareness and find a cure to a cause that is very close to our team's heart. Through the power of social media Ben and the entire team was put up to a challenge by crew chief, Scott Zipadelli.
Challenge accepted.
A vital team member on the No. 11 team has a daughter who was diagnosed and treated with a rare form of Pediatric Cancer. She fought for years through a very tough battle and defeated a cancer that only a small percentage of children survive from. Today, she remains an inspiration to us all, as a strong, independent, and confident person. A person that we all look up to.
Please help us and donate to spread awareness, assist families with financial responsibilities, and fund research advancements in the Race to Support Pediatric Cancer.
All proceeds will go to the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation, a foundation that is close to us and close to the entire NASCAR community. In 2009, the Martin Truex Jr. Special Needs Fund was established at Levine Children's Hospital to assist families that may have unusual or immediate financial need that can't be met because of the high cost of treatment for their child.
Our goal is $10,000 by May 8th the date of our Kansas truck race. Anything is much appreciated, even if its a dollar. Let's get together and help defeat a cause that needs awareness.
P.S.-Last week Ben Kennedy got to visit the University of Kansas Hospital Pediatric Center and meet the children fighting illnesses including Pediatric Cancer. We can't wait to have them be our honorary crew members during the Kansas race and have them by our side cheering our team on to victory on and off the race track.
