Kalli Designs are proud to support such an important community project and ask for your help raising funds for Helping Hands.
Helping Hands is based at 42 Balaam Street, next to Balaam Leisure
Centre. The house (named after the founding Franciscan brothers, The
House of The Divine Compassion)
is home to people in the
community who have nowhere to stay and no means of support. Visitors
are welcome to the house to relax in the garden and to enjoy being
together and having someone to talk to and befriend. Helping Hands
encourages volunteering, whether for gardening, odd jobs, housework,
simple repairs or befriending, and depends solely on those volunteers.
Some come from Southend, to work in the office, operate the phone
line, cook or clean. There are old clothes to sort and practical tasks
such as helping the elderly with their shopping. Helping Hands also
offers support and guidance for those seeking advice on e.g legal or
housing advice. For those who are in need in the community, no matter
their faith, Helping Hands provides a service they cannot do without.
My Grandad died very suddenly in Oct 2014 aged 69. Brother Julian of Helping Hands helped to give him a fitting send off. Having known my family since before I was born he has many a story to tell about my Grandad who could often be found seeking tranquility in their gardens. Anybody who lives in Plaistow will be able to tell you about the Brothers that work here and the important part they play in the community, helping anyone and everyone who needs it.
