Light the Trails for Larry

We have achieved the target we set for the "Light the Trails for Larry" campaign. I have to say that the Sinclair family are overwhelmed with your generosity in helping find a fitting and lasting tribute to our dear friend Larry.

We have also received substantial donations outside of the online campaign.

We will have funds left over from the lighting project and my co-conspirators on this project (who would at this point prefer to remain anonymous) along with Kelly and Chanse have come up with another worthwhile project to honour Larry's memory. See the update tab (above) for more details.

Larry Sinclair was a fixture in the cross country scene across Canada. His dedication to the sport is unparalleled. His untimely death is a true loss.

The success of the Highlands Trailblazers was one of Larry’s proudest achievements. Seeing young people achieve their goals and grow as individuals always brought a smile to his face. There were no ends that he wouldn’t go to help a Trailblazer – be it a loan of skis or leading a team on a trip to a European glacier – always with no monetary gain.

Larry wanted to provide Trailblazers with the opportunity to have more hours on snow. The only way to achieve this is to light the trails so that Trailblazers who are still in school can ski after school. Larry reached out to the larger community and an affordable solution was found – a mixture of low voltage LED lights – deep cycle batteries – solar panels to recharge the batteries. The cost per light is approximately $300 – much cheaper than any other system. A light is required about every 100 metres.

We need your help to make Larry’s dream come true. With your help we can complete the initial plan of lighting 3 K of trails and hopefully light the first four loops of the orange trial (8 K) to provide the varied terrain that a racer really needs to train properly.

Completing the initial 3 K will cost $9,000. The full 8 K will cost approximately $24,000.

All contributors will be recognized on a plaque in the chalet.
