Created October 6, 2014Susie HagenOver 5 years ago i had a mole removed on my nose and the test came back clear. Years later it grew back and so little did i think it would be any different. But then it began to change a become a bit bigger. My sister noticed it was time to go get it checked. It did bleed and so I went in. I thought it would be the same thing. Little did i know the call on Feb 14, 2014 it would come back as a T4 depth Melanoma. I am 43 years old.

She told me the mole was melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, and that I needed to see a surgical oncologist to get it removed. I went to that doctor and it was explained i needed to have surgery around my nose and face and i need scans so that if it has spread to other lymph nodes that I will need to remove those and then start treatments. They were already worried at that time, since it was already very deep. That was many months ago. It is now Oct and after fighting insurance and getting denied and not having money to afford pet scan and CT scans i need some help with the financial burdens of trying to stop this before it gets worse. As most of you know, I am feeling my body go quickly.

Melanoma changes the patient’s skin color in the affected area, and this is the easiest way for someone to determine that they have a problem. However, it is important to get treatment as soon as there is even the slightest indication that a malignant tumor is present because melanoma is extremely dangerous if it is not caught early on. In fact, 75 percent of all skin cancer fatalities are caused by melanoma, and approximately 160,000 new cases are diagnosed annually.

Sadly, 48,000 people will die from melanoma this year alone. However, early detection followed by removal of the tumor gives patients a high chance of survival. Because of this, it is crucial to pay close attention to your skin, especially if you spend a lot of time outside or have ever used a tanning bed. Even if you catch the melanoma in the very beginning, you may still need to raise money online in order to pay for your treatment.

Because i may have a an advanced stage of melanoma, i am not sure how much my expenses are. Right now i need an estimated $8000 for scans to know how far the melanoma has spread and very quick so i can survive and start beating this monster.
