THE TWINS HISTORY The boys were born 9 week premature weighing 1lb15oz and 2lb4oz they struggled to grow and became very healthy children at the age of 7 Domonique began to show signs of tip toe walking this is when we began to see specialists.. Over the 5 years there was never any results but both boys paralysis began to progress about a year ago Domonique became dependent on a wheelchair and the ability to hold a pen or feed himself became a struggle. Isaac's paralysis is progressing right behind his brother..we have seen every specialist in Toronto sick kids done every test right through to every genetic test available in Canada and Boston...finally this past week a orthopedic surgeon diagnosed the boys with paraplegic spastic displasia disorder and recommended the surgery On June 30th both boys underwent surgery on both legs at Toronto sick kids hospital. The surgery was 3 hours long each and the specialist cut and stretched the tendons and muscles at the groin hamstring behind the knees and at the ankles. During the weeks after surgery there pain was enormous and the struggle they endeavor was amazing. We spent 3 months at the Holland Bloorview Kids rehabilitation hospital where the boys did extensive physio and orthopedic therapy everyday. On discharge the boys were reassessed by the specialist who informed us that the surgery DID NOT work if anything it made their leg worse. This has left us devastated and with no answers to what is wrong. Now the boys are in need of special equipment at home and school such as transfer chairs for showering with a lift, handrails to transfer onto the toilet and a hospital bed to raise the legs to stop spasms and rails to allow transfers.
