Cancer is so limited...
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot
shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away
peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill
friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence
courage.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the Spirit.
My Family and I have been battling this horrendous disease since 2009, First with Stage 1 Breast Cancer and later starting in 2011 where it had progressed to Stage IV and Metastisized to my Brain, bones, lungs and ovaries.
Whilst the above poem is meant to be inspirational and moving and sometimes a lifeline, it is also masking the ugly truths about Cancer.
I am not stronger either in Body nor mind, I no longer recognize
either of those as being my own (certainly not the me I grew up with)
I have deep moments of despair, loss of memory, confidence and
courage. An underlying anxiety and veil of stress both physically and
financially that does not waver. The blood tests, the PET scans,
MRI's, infusions, operations, medications, chemo, radiation, bone
infusions, supplements, menopause, weight gain..... They have torn me
from who I am, the mother I dreamed of being and the wife my husband deserves.
These are the things Cancer Can do....and I cannot fight them alone. We are currently living with my parents whilst we try to get on our feet. Our Medical bills amount to approx $1000/mo with me often skipping treatments in order to cover other necessities. I am asking you to help us reduce these pressures, to provide a cushion of stability for now and the unknown to come. To kick Cancer where it hurts the most...on the ground, in the lives of the patients and families who are affected.
I am 40, I am a Fighter, I have Cancer....
