The family and friends of Spiro Papadatos are uniting to help raise money to support his battle with liver cancer. As many of you may already know, Spiro has been battling liver cancer since 2011 Throughout this challenging journey, he has continued to work right up until his first liver transplant in September 2013. He came out of that surgery in good spirits, extremely grateful with a new life ahead of him and a new liver inside of him. Remarkably, Spiro was discharged from the hospital on October 1', 2013 as his doctors were extremely pleased with his progress. Many people would still be in the hospital at this stage. He arrived home and was under the close supervision of the Cleveland Clinic transplant team and Emmanuela Jones (his fiancé), who has truly been a blessing to Spiro. Unfortunately, on January 2014 a rejection set in and Spiro was readmitted to the Cleveland Clinic. Spiro remained thankful and positive. However, he learned that in order to survive, he would need to undergo a second transplant operation. Spiro faced his second liver transplant all during a 6 month period. Following the second transplant, Spiro experienced many unforeseen complications such as pneumonia, infection and kidney failure but managed to come through and survive. A liver transplant today costs an unimaginable estimated $580,000. Insurance will cover most of the cost but even the remaining 20% out of pocket expenses are challenging to manage and that is additional stress that any person facing an organ transplant can do without during the arduous time. We have never understood what it means to feel truly helpless until now. We are hopeful that through this site, we can relieve some of the financial stress brought on by two transplant operations and the cost of immune suppressant medications simply by asking for help. No donation is too small and every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated. Any and all funds raised will be used for medical expenses which are not covered otherwise. Also, please join us in extending our deepest sympathies to the families that suffer a terrible loss. We don’t know who they are, but we know that we are grateful for their compassion that has allowed others to live on, due to the donation of the organs of their loved ones. These individuals have shown us the possibility of miracles and we are thankful – just as we are thankful to each and every person that takes the time to read this message.

Please also feel free to send donations directly to Spiro
