We are the Oh Boy... These Pickles are Natural Disasters. We represented our school again this year in the Maine First Lego League Championship in Augusta on Dec.14th. This year, out of 76 teams all across Maine, our team emerged as the State Champions - for the 3rd time. We received perfect scores in the Robot Design, Teamwork and Gracious Professionalism categories of the competition. In addition to receiving the overall FLL award, the team also won first place in the table top robot competition component.

We have been invited to represent the State of Maine to compete at the World FLL Festival in St. Louis this April. This is another incredible opportunity for us to meet and compete with kids representing other states and countries. As a team, we understand the importance of perseverance and hard work. Since the fall of 2013, we have been meeting everyday after school and most Saturdays and Sundays. In preparation for the World Festival, we have begun the process of reworking our robot design, redesigning our core programming blocks and rebuilding our robot attachments. This is to ensure consistency and maximum results in robot performance. We want to ensure that we are highly competitive at the St. Louis Championships.

We have learned numerous lessons from the past 3 years. Aside from gaining a greater insight into STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education, we have learned how to work as a team and draw on each of our strengths. Also, we have learned that things may not always go as planned, but with hard work, dedication and a singleminded focus on the objectives, we can often overcome our obstacles.

Unfortunately, the school cannot shoulder the full cost of this trip, and our team is now attempting to raise funds so that Bar Harbor and Maine can be represented. We are reaching out to you to help us raise this money to cover the travel expenses for the trip and support the Robotics program in our school.
