I ended the last fundraiser, since I was able to borrow some money, and I have the total due down to 812.65. My baby girl Sasha had to have her second back surgery in May. We have four rescue dogs, and they all have health issues, so we haven't been able to get pet health insurance on them. Our oldest dog, Shania, is a Catahoula Mix, that we got shortly after Hurricane Katrina, her mama was one of the dogs rescued in Louisiana. We paid only a 5$ fee to rescue her. But, about 5 years ago, she developed auto immune disease, and we were taking her in for daily steroid shots, she got worse and worse. We ended taking her in to the animal hospital, and she was almost dead. They had to give her 3 blood transfusions, and keep her in the hospital for 7 or 8 days. That bill was almost 10K. About a year later, she was chasing her ball, her favorite thing to do in the world, and yipped, and was limping. We took her in and found out she had a torn ACL, and that her other ACL was bad. We opted to fix her ACL for 3400.00, about 6 weeks after this, her other ACL went out, so there was another 3400.00! All this time we've been having to pay for seizure medications and checkups for our Dachshund Stuka, a rescue also. A year after Shania's ACL's, Sasha's back went out. We tried the steroids and everything. Ended up having to do an MRI and surgery on one ruptured disc, the total was around 4300.00. Now, back to Shania, in March we noticed she was drinking GALLONS of water a day, and panting like crazy. We took her in, and it took adrenal hormone tests, and an ultrasound to find out she had Cushing's syndrome. That all was around 1200.00. We were still making it though, barely! Her meds are almost 100.00 a month. Crazy. I had to take her in for her second hormone test, 300.00, and Sasha was dragging her legs again! So, I took both dogs in, and Sasha ended up having Xrays, and then needed another MRI. Found out she had TWO ruptured discs! This day, for me to have her taken care of, and pay Shania's testing was almost 5K. By this time, we were broke from vet bills. But, Sasha is a very special dog. I couldn't put her down! I promised the vet that I would find a way to pay for it if it killed me! Sasha is the least dominant dog in our little "pack", so, she's the happiest. Always wagging her tail, and prancing around. She wakes up like this! She's my baby. The vet gave us as big a break as he could, he took 600 off the MRI, volunteered his time, and only charged to fix one disc. Sasha is not overweight, we don't let her jump on and off the furniture. We have doggy stairs to get on the bed and couches. Her back problems are genetic, unfortunately, so there was no way to prevent her problems. We also rescued an aggressive long haired dachshund we named Smoke. He had a lot of checkups, blood tests, behavior testing, and was on Prozac and Klonopin, so he was pretty expensive too. We rescued him from euthanasia in January. So, I have the bill down to a more manageable 812.00. I have used all my resources. I sell items on EBAY to help, I will leave the link to my items, if anyone can help that way. We were doing OK until this latest tragedy! I try to donate to as many animals in need as I can, which I had to put on hold until I get this bill paid off.
