I'm John, 34 years old and currently unemployed. My daughter, Sloane, is an honor roll student in advanced placement/gifted, an incredible person, and already admins a page against bullying. She's been living with me for the last year, and I've always made great efforts to enable her to become the incredible person she is.

I was ordered to pay child support two years ago, when I was making more money than I ever have, before or since. I'm ordered to pay $460 a month. This was a pretty big hit to my finances when she didn't live with me full time, (I had to rent out the room I had always reserved for her. I was evicted from a home I was renting. Through help from a charitable organization, my family was able to move into my current home.)

My daughter's mother was in a bad situation, and it was better for all involved if my daughter lived with me. Her mother stated several times that she had/would cancel the child support order. She has not. I'm still paying child support. It's killing me. I can't afford an attorney, because I'm paying 40% of my severely reduced income in child support. I've been to the DOR and the courthouse several times, and I haven't accomplished anything. I'm trying to fill out 63 pages that require me to write in Spanish and Creole. It requires me to know her mother's addresses for the last 5 years. It requires me to know whether her mother lives in the jurisdiction of the city PD or the Sheriff's office. I don't know these things. I'm not stupid, but the paperwork really requires someone with an understanding of the law to decipher.

I've built up some personal debt to friends and family, around $1000. I've fallen behind on most of my bills. I need enough money to hire my attorney. Any funds left over, (hoping I get enough, please?) will be donated to Adopt A Family, because they do such great work in the community.

Edit: I was not expecting anything like this. I'm humbled and amazed and I don't know nearly that many $5 college words.

For every new donation, I promise my heartfelt sincere gratitude and appreciation. I definitely can't take time away from my job search to think up 4,000 words. (And I'm starting to think I might actually hit that goal, and be able to pass a good chunk of change on to Adopt a Family.)
