I gave up everything to be housed, and it's still not enough.

Hi friends. I have struggled for the past 3+ years to keep a safe roof over my head. My biggest hurdle was living in the British Columbia housing crisis. It is truly a crisis there, worse than most citizens realize.

My debt has been a slow creeping monster this whole time. I have a line of credit I kept borrowing trying to buy us one more month, emergency groceries, car repairs, you name it.

So what brings us to now?

I fled from a disgusting living situation in spring of 2023, I was forced to have my daughter live with her father. It's not ideal, she does not want to be there, but I had no place to go with her as I had no place to go, myself.

Our family promised to take us in, then suddenly reneged while I was in the middle of prepping for the move. We were left stranded with no backup plan. I had even sold the RV we could have lived in and instead put it into car repairs for the move - we really were abandoned and it was a terrible situation.

Then a long time friend offered safe, rent-free haven in Oklahoma, but I hesitated. I couldn't bring my daughter because it was such a big move with unknown conditions. Finally this fall I moved having no other option to have a roof over my head anywhere.

This friend instead of providing a safe haven molested me and exploded in violence when I had enough of him violating me and stood up for myself. I left and later pressed charges against him.

I was homeless for 2 months after all that happened, living in a shelter in Oklahoma City.

I am now housed again in Oklahoma, renting a bedroom with a full-time job, but my debt is now back to bite me.

I've done my budget: my income is not enough for bills, debt, and expenses like car repairs/maintenance even when done myself.

My debt needs to be gone for me to be housed.

My life isn't lavish. In the photo is just about everything I own. I go to work, I come home, I do art on my computer. I am trying to build an online shop, but it's been difficult moving (and fleeing) so much.

I am not able to pick up a second job. I can barely handle my full-time job. My health isn't good, and I'm already playing with fire doing what I'm doing. I'm at my physical max already.

If I do not get rid of my debt by the end of July I will have to live in my car, and I cannot be housed again until the debt is gone.

That means years of homelessness at my modest income.

I know I'll never see my daughter again. That's an unobtainable dream because finances will never be there. All I want now is to just stay housed. I just want a roof over my head. That's all.

The bedroom I rent now is safe, the landlord is cool and so is my roommate. It's honestly perfect, and I know I'll never find a place like this again.

I honestly don't have a lot of hope this will work, but I have to try something.
