Limbert is creating an arts center for youth in Pucallpa Peru. Here in the jungle there are very few projects for young people.
The idea behind this project is to create an arts center that's offers painting, music, dance and theater to the youth here. Overseen by Limbert and other artists and assistants from the community. Teaching skills and allowing expression through art.
Pucallpa has a problem with youth and dilenqency and the idea of catching kids young and channeling their energy into creative projects and social teachng with strong mentors will help the future generations.
Limbert has been teaching art for 28 years and apprenticed with Pablo Ameringo the first visionary artist from Peru. Pablo set up a school which ran for 17 years. Limbert was the principal teacher at the school. Pablo died in 2009.
This year Limbert started teaching from his rented house and has been overwhelmed by the amount of kids that wish to study with him.
He recently has been given notice on his rented house and has till mid March to vacate it. He bought land some time back with the plan to create an arts center there. Now it seems like it's time to finally build it but he needs some help to do that.
Many of the families of the kids that he teaches are poor and he does not discriminate but rather takes the kids for donations only. The cost of equipment, paints, brushes, canvasses etc has been largely met from the sale of his paintings. This project is much bigger incorporating theater, music and dance.
