Hello my name is Vanessa Oliveira, I'm 41 years old, I'm married and
I have two wonderful children Matheus 13 years old and Brenda 10 years old.
My suffering started almost 9 years ago, In February 2011, after
a day of many tasks I went to bed and after 30 minutes I got up with
unbearable pain ... at that moment my life changed completely because
I was paralyzed from the waist down...
My husband took me to Orem Timpanogos hospital by car with
neighbors help. There I was initially diagnosed with Guillain Barré
syndrome ... I was immediately transferred to an ICU at Utah Valley
Hospital in Provo because doctors said I was at risk of death and
after 3 days there they changed the diagnosis to Transverse Myelitis
and so I did several treatments and exams.
After 3 months hospitalized, I was discharged and went home
using a wheelchair, diapers, adapted bathroom, constant pain and many
medications adding more than 44 pills a day. All this being the mother
of two very young children…
After 6 months, in October 2011 we decided to return to Brazil
to be treated with a Transverse Myelitis specialist at the Syrian
Lebanese Hospital of Sao Paulo. Seeing my exams from here and through
further exams my real problem was identified and I've never had
Transverse Myelitis as previously diagnosed.
My real problem was two herniated discs between the T8 and T11
vertebrae that caused the paralysis and caused the unbearable pain and
because I was at risk of becoming completely paralyzed, I underwent
emergency surgery...
In December 2011 I was able to perform the surgery at the USP
Clinic Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil with an excellent neurosurgeon,
but unfortunately the left leg movements did not return and the pain
did not stop. I had a lot of hope and I thought that when I woke up
from anesthesia everything would be back to normal and I would wake up
from that 10-month nightmare in which I lived daily with limitations,
pain and discrimination.
We returned to the United States in April 2019 for the stem cell
treatment and after a lot of research we found a clinic that has
several branches across the United States that performs the treatment
I need.
The treatment cost is $ 12,000, our resources are gone and for
this reason your help will make all the difference.
