Without getting into the nitty gritty (yet) of why medication costs (even with insurance) are so high, I want to start a pharmacy that bypasses all of the illegal activity done between insurance companies, PBM’s, and drug manufacturers. As a pharmacist that’s fed up with seeing my patients do without, I want to start a ‘membership’ pharmacy where as long as you pay a REASONABLE fee each month (instead of a crazy amount for insurance), you can get medications at a much lower rate! For example, if a drug costs me $10.00 to get from the drug manufacturer you’re going to get that medication for $10-$15 dollars (there are still some operational costs, but I WILL be transparent unlike the way the business is done now!). Right now if you go to get that $10 medication insurance can decide that your co-pay for that drug is $50 FOR NO APPARENT REASON.  And let me say, the pharmacy isn’t keeping that money... insurance companies will then slap a dispensing fee on the Pharmacy for $40 or more which is then recouped from the Pharmacy. They operate to benefit themselves and there’s no real regulation on insurance companies AND PBM’s.
