We are Team Nika, a group of 5 athletes that participate in all types of sporting events from CrossFit competitions to Ragnar relays to Spartan races to adventure races. We all have a desire to push our limits and constantly look for new adventures.
Why We Are Raising Funds
Team Nika has been selected to be in one of the toughest adventure races in the world in 2019. As part of the race, the team will participate in a large community project in the country where the race takes place. The race will require entry fees, gear, required certifications, immunizations, and travel. Donations large and small are appreciated.
Our Team
Team Nika is comprised of 4 members of the CrossFit Nika gym in DeLand, Florida and one Jiu-Jitsu champion from Arizona. The 4 Floridians recently lost their close friend Brad Strickland and aim to complete the race in his memory. Team captain Jeff Bates is a CrossFitter and ultramarathoner. Two of the members, Ashley Bridges and Kara Haun, own the CrossFit gym the team works out at and are engaged to be married. Kara has been in the fire service for 20 years and currently holds the rank of Battalion Chief. Keria Galan, support crew for the team, is a CrossFitter and marathoner. In addition, she is a cardiac nurse, which is an ability the team hopefully won’t need during the race. The 5th member, John Bender, is a Spartan racer and youth football coach. John has never met 3 of the other members of the team which should prove interesting for team dynamics.
