Sara Horn hasn't added a story.
Nora has been diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVVD), because of this a disc in her back has ruptured and paralyzed her back legs. Her chances of walking again increase and her Pain decreases a lot with PT and acupuncture. Please help her have the chance to run again!
Nora is a tiny Chihuahua Dachshund mix with the sweetest face ever! I adopted her July 12 2013 from the Austin Animal Shelter in Austin TX. She is 3 years old and has come a long way from the 6lb terrified, undernourished, tail between her legs, dog I brought home. She has been mistreated, on her own and still has a heart bigger than Texas with enough love for all. She has gained weight mostly muscle from playing with her best friend Brenna and running like a crazy dog! On November 28th that changed. I was getting ready for bed and my boyfriend went to pick her up and she screamed a blood curdling scream and started limping and crying. I thought she had pulled a muscle; we made her comfortable in her bed and thought she would be better in the morning. By morning both of her legs were paralyzed. We went to the emergency vet and were told she had Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVVD) and to take her to my vet ASAP the next morning. My vet agreed with the diagnosis and recommended surgery but at $3000 up front with a 12 hour window to operate, that was out. She said we had a shot with steroid blasting and crate healing. She will be in a crate no moving except to potty for 8 weeks. This morning her paralysis hadn’t changed and the prognosis for her to walk again is fading. She may have a better shot with acupuncture and it would help a lot with the pain. Great no big deal how much could dog acupuncture be??? Significantly more than I thought! I want to give her the best care I can and I don’t have a lot of money. I have no intention of getting rid of her or putting her down if she is paralyzed, I will deal with that! I do want to give her the best chance to walk again and that includes acupuncture.Anyone who knows me will tell you that it is hard for me to ask for help especially where money is concerned but I will to help her.
The vet bill so far is $623
The PT and Acupuncture run about $50 per treatment.
a cart (if she needs it) runs $250-$300
Any money I receive goes to Nora and if I should have any left I will donate it to Austin Pets Alive.
I will try to update every day to let everyone know how she is doing.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you can help Nora and I would be so grateful.
