Hi everyone. Thank you for taking the time to view my campaign.

My story

My name is Bayan Azizi. I am currently writing a book about how I grew up with a brain tumour and survived it. When I was first diagnosed nobody thought I would survive, but I never gave up hope. That’s why I’m writing this book: to give hope to others who are in similar positions as me.  At first the doctors gave me three months to live. That was about 15 years ago, and I’m still here, writing my book and trying to spread my message.

Here is a brief summary of my story. Ever since I was young my parents could see some very subtle signs of abnormality with me. My coordination wasn’t the same as other kids my age and even my walking was off. My parents worried about this and kept taking me to different doctors, but they didn’t think these abnormalities were anything to worry about. They kept saying that these things were normal signs of childhood development.

Bayan

It was just after my 9th birthday when we got a call from my doctor approving a CT scan that would show him some pictures of my organs. My family and I went to the hospital for the appointment and then found out that there was a tumour in my brain. We went through a long process to find a surgeon that could help me.  We flew across Canada to Toronto for the surgery and later learned that I needed a ventilator to breathe when I slept.

I had a few more surgeries for a tracheostomy and feeding tube, and then I lost my abilities to eat, drink and talk.  My medical position stayed like this for another couple years but then we learnt that the tumour was growing and I needed another surgery.  I had that surgery and afterwards lost my ability to walk and use my right arm.

With your help, I can publish my book and hopefully spread my message to other families and individuals who are looking for help.
