Bear was found on the side of the highway in Charlotte, NC. He has a badly broken femur, lacerations and is only about 50% of his ideal weight. He is a walking skeleton and needs our help.

Bear was found on the side of highway in Charlotte, NC in very poor condition. He has a badly broken femur, numerous lacerations and tested positive for heartworm. He is very badly malnourished, weighing only 39 lbs when his ideal weight is 80-90 lbs. His total cost of veterinary treatment, including surgery on his femur and heartworm treatment was orginally quoted at $5,000 but unfortunately his leg cannot be saved. Amputation is considerably less expensive, so our total for treatment is now $1,600. An x-ray of his leg has been posted in the updates section so you can see how badly the poor guy's leg is broken.

Bear is a shepherd mix, solid black, 3-4 years old and is very grateful we picked him up. As he heals, he will make a great addition to whatever lucky family takes him. Please consider donating towards his medical costs and sharing his story. If you may be interested in adopting him, please contact us for further information.

The photo is from his vet visit, we will post more photos as we get him settled. If donations exceed his medical costs, they will be forwarded to Total Bond Veterinary Clinic of Charlotte, NC. They stayed open well past their closing time to treat what they could in their clinic and let Bear spend the night for observation. Thank you so much, we wish there were more veterinary practices like theirs!
