Courtney Lesher Werts hasn't added a story.
Please take the time to read and share and considering helping me and my Terrific Women from TWIG 45 make this happen! Some of you might know Jennifer Hoagland from TWIG 45 or the Vandalia Moms' Mart that raises money for Dayton Children's Hospital. She is an amazing woman, an important part of the TWIG organization and a dear friend to many of us.
Last spring, she went for some testing and found out she has cancer. She is currently battling Stage 4 Bladder Cancer. She is getting the best treatment but unfortunately that is at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas which keeps her from her two sweet boys, husband and close family. She is currently going through a round of a new chemo and her doctors have been happy with how the chemo is working on the tumor. She has been gone since the beginning of July and best case scenario can come home in the spring. As many of you have children, I am sure, like me, you couldn't imagine fighting cancer and being away from your children for such a long time.
She made one short, surprise visit home to see her family and drop in on Moms' Mart (picture of Jen on the right with Kari Hept) but of course she is homesick and her boys miss her like crazy. She sadly already missed one child's birthday and won't be able to travel for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s Eve. We want to raise money to send Jen's husband and 2 sons to see her in Houston for the holiday which will cost somewhere in the ballpark of $1,500 for the three of them to go see Jen. None of them know we are doing this (and if you know any of them please keep it a secret!) but with the holidays coming and all the other expenses they currently have this would be a wonderful, unexpected gift for all of them to get some much needed TLC.
Every time I run, I think of Jen. I think of her fighting this cancer, think about her being sick from the chemo, wanting comforts from home, missing her boys and husband like crazy, and just wanting to get back to her normal life. I think about how I am pushing to get to the next mile while she is pushing to get better and come home to her family. I want to do my part and that is where you all come in: I am running the Hot Chocolate 15K on November 17th in Columbus, Ohio in honor of Jen and her awesome strength to fight. Please consider sponsoring me with any donation you feel you can give to make this trip happen for a wonderful family that is homesick for their loved ones.
We have set up a Paypal account which is Runcowgirlstyleforjen@gmail.com or through the fundrazr link.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Runcowgirlstyleforjen@gmail.com.
Please know this is not associated with the TWIG organization or Dayton Children's Hospital. This is a gift for the Hoagland family.
Please pass this on so that we can make this happen!
Sincerely,
Courtney Werts
