I met Pearl at Fulton County AS completely by accident. Pearl caught my eye because she was limping, hugely pregnant, and her tail did not stop wagging. I couldn't resist this pathetically pregnant dog and when I let her out she limped into my lap and wouldn't move. I later found out that her owner had been keeping her in the yard and she was covered in dirt and ticks, and one of her toenails was growing into her foot. When the officers came out the owner all but shoved Pearl in their faces, telling them to take her away. And yet here was this sweet, uncomfortable looking dog still so eager for human touch, for love. It nearly broke my heart to leave her in the run. By that evening a wonderful shelter volunteer, Ashley Freedman, had taken Pearl out of the shelter on a medical release. Ashley took her to the vet where she found out this young, 30lb dog was pregnant with at least TEN puppies. Despite lack of space and time, Ashley was determined that Pearl would not give birth to her puppies on a concrete floor by herself in a loud shelter. Pearl is currently at the emergency vet because she is pacing, panting, and lactating. She will hopefully be giving birth to her puppies within the next 6 hours. But Pearl needs a rescue, and she needs a foster home, and she needs funds. I am sure Pearl is going to be a wonderful mama, but 10 puppies is a lot for one petite girl to feed. She may need help. And that's just the beginning. These puppies will need vaccines, spays/ neuters, as will Pearl, and the family will need a foster home until they are ready to be adopted. Please donate so that Pearl's puppies will never know the neglect she has, and so that she can find out what it means to be a part of a family.
