This page is to support my friend, colleague and dear one who lost his entire household during Hurricane Sandy. He is one of the worst victims among others. Although, this disaster has affected many people, this fundraising appeal is to benefit Manmohan Soni, whom I know personally for a long time, to help them to cope up with the disaster and at this time, mainly, to help them rebuild their home which is totally deserted. Please take a time to know about his circumstances at the time of the disaster.

Manmohan Soni lives in Staten Island and fall in Zone-A designated area of NYC due to their proximity to the ocean (only 200 yards from the ocean). It was a mandatory evacuation for him during Hurricane Sandy.

As far as his house is concerned, it is completely destroyed, as it was completely submerged under 13-feet of water during Hurricane. He could only access our house only on November 2 when there was still two-feet of water on the street. All the contents in the house are lost because of seawater, sewage and other contamination. It is fortunate that he evacuated the house in time with only couple of clothing and go-bag, and is safe including his pet Leo (German Shepherd).

They were in a temporary shelter until November 9, 2012 until they found a one-bedroom apartment on November 10 and since then; they’re trying to settle in having nothing in the apartment except some basic needs.

To add to their misery, they also have significant damage to his rental property that happens to be next-door. The tenants evacuated and have now abandoned that property too.

While he is standing strong but I know that this disaster has devastated them. While they are struggling to deal and complete other formalities, they are also trying to fight the red-tape of insurance and others.

No one would wish to be in such a tragic situation; therefore, grateful for any possible assistance, small or big, every penny counts. God bless!

The cover photo shows the water level upto 5-feet on November 1, when he rafted a boat with his wife (happens to be his birthday) to see his house.
