Lanhiyah Curtis hasn't added a story.

After years of unexplained illness, I finally received an answer: Stage IV endometriosis with extensive pelvic adhesive disease, chronic pelvic pain, and disease involving my bowel and bladder.

Endometriosis is a chronic, highly inflammatory disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it. It is far more than a painful period. It can affect multiple organs and cause inflammation, fibrosis, adhesions, chronic pain, organ dysfunction, and infertility.

In my case, the disease has significantly distorted my pelvic anatomy. My cervix is adhered to my rectum, and my fallopian tubes are adhered to my uterus and pelvic sidewall. Endometriosis has also spread to my bowel and bladder.

How Endometriosis Changed My Life

For years, I lived with symptoms without knowing what was causing them. Chronic pelvic pain became part of my everyday life, along with severe fatigue and brain fog, nausea and vomiting, bladder symptoms, chronic inflammation, dizziness, and episodes of fainting.

Eventually, being sick became my normal.

I kept trying to push through it—working, attending college, and trying to build the future I had planned for myself. But as my health deteriorated, ordinary responsibilities became increasingly difficult.

By 2024, I could no longer sustain employment. I went from being a straight-A student who loved learning to struggling to complete assignments, dropping classes, and sometimes simply trying to make it through a semester.

In December 2025, laparoscopic surgery finally gave me answers. An ovarian endometrioma was removed and one lesion was excised for pathology, confirming endometriosis. However, the extensive remaining endometriosis and adhesions were left in place.

I have not yet had comprehensive excision surgery.

Why I Need Specialized Care

With advanced disease involving multiple organs, the surgery I need is much more complex than a routine gynecologic procedure.

My surgical team may need to address bowel and bladder disease, extensive adhesions, fallopian tubes adhered to surrounding structures, and a cervix adhered to the rectum—all while protecting healthy organs and preserving as much normal function as possible.

I initially searched for specialized care within the United States. Unfortunately, accessing highly experienced multidisciplinary excision care through traditional insurance networks can be extremely difficult, and specialized surgeons are often out of network with substantial out-of-pocket costs.

That led me to broaden my search and ultimately find EndoGlobal, an international multidisciplinary endometriosis surgery program experienced in complex excision.

I chose EndoGlobal for both access and expertise. Their approach includes specialized preoperative endometriosis mapping and multidisciplinary surgical care for complex disease involving multiple organs. Their predictable surgical pricing also gives me a clearer financial target despite the complexity of my case.

My Next Steps: September Mapping → December Surgery

My first step is traveling in September for specialized endometriosis mapping. This evaluation will help the surgical team determine the extent of my disease, evaluate my pelvic and reproductive anatomy, and plan surgery.

If I can secure the necessary funding, I hope to return for EndoGlobal's December surgical session.

My future fertility is especially important to me. Endometriosis is associated with infertility, and my fallopian tubes are already adhered to surrounding structures. I don't yet know how much my fertility has been affected, and that is something that will be evaluated further.

I hope to be a mother someday.

I know surgery cannot guarantee fertility, complete pain relief, or any particular outcome. But I want the opportunity to treat the disease, restore as much normal anatomy and function as possible, and preserve my future fertility wherever possible.

What Your Support Will Fund

The surgery itself is expected to cost approximately $20,000, with additional expenses required to access treatment.

Funds raised will help with:

  • Specialized imaging and endometriosis mapping in September

  • Travel expenses for my September evaluation

  • Specialized excision surgery and related medical care

  • Other necessary treatment-related expenses

I'm doing everything I can to help close that gap. In addition to this campaign, I've created #EndoUnfiltered, an endometriosis awareness clothing collection whose proceeds will go toward my treatment, and I am applying for financial assistance through Endo Excision for All.

All of these efforts are working toward the same goal: getting me to the specialized treatment I need.

What This Could Give Back

Endometriosis has affected my ability to work, my education, my independence, my energy, and my ability to plan for my future.

I don't expect surgery to magically undo everything this disease has taken from me. But it gives me something I haven't had in a long time:

A chance.

A chance to address the disease and adhesions affecting my organs.
A chance to regain some of the function and independence I've lost.
A chance to protect my future health.
And hopefully, a chance to become a mother someday.

If you're able to donate, every contribution—regardless of size—brings me closer to September mapping and ultimately to surgery in December.

If you aren't able to donate, sharing my campaign is also incredibly valuable. Every share helps my story reach someone who may be able to help while also raising awareness about what living with advanced endometriosis can actually look like.

Thank you for reading my story, supporting #EndoUnfiltered, and helping me fight for a healthier future. 💛
