As a single mother of three, my greatest dream has always been to see my children build a brighter, more secure future than the one I had. My oldest daughter was recently accepted into an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program and is going to be the first person in our family to attend college.
If you know my daughter, you know she is incredibly intelligent, inquisitive, and has a sweet, helpful soul. She is also an introvert. She was terrified to apply to college, not because she didn’t qualify but because she didn't want to burden our family with the cost. But I pushed her. I looked her in the eyes and told her that her future was worth it, that she belonged there, and that we would find a way to get through it together. When the acceptance letter arrived, we cried tears of pure joy. My little girl is going to be a nurse.
However, reality hit hard when I sat down to do the math on the school website. The estimated cost for her first year is $7,000. This figure covers the tuition, books, equipment, and other miscellaneous fees. As a single mom supporting three kids, generating this amount of money on my own is an impossible hurdle. I immediately panicked when I saw the total, but I refused to let the price stop her after she worked so hard to get in.
I am aiming to raise $7,000 to cover her first year of nursing school so she can focus on her studies without the weight of our financial situation.
