My Heart, My Home, and My Hope
My name is Amber Ramsey, a 43-year-old woman who will be reaching a significant milestone—my 44th birthday—in just 14 days. I hail from the picturesque hills of West Virginia, but presently, my life feels like it's hanging by a thread. Every single day, I find myself grappling with the real struggles of survival, deeply aware that my body, which has always been my companion, is now failing me in ways that are both frightening and exhausting.
At this moment, I have found refuge in a simple tent where I reside with my beloved fur babies—my furry companions who bring me joy amidst the chaos. Each day is a Herculean effort, as I try to navigate through life’s challenges when my health is fraught with serious issues. My heart is severely compromised, and I am battling with cardiovascular conditions known as peripheral artery disease (PAD) and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO), in addition to an array of other medical complications that have flipped my world upside down.
It has now been nearly four long years since I received the devastating diagnosis that has irrevocably changed my life’s trajectory. Within this brief span, I have endured profound losses, eradicating parts of my past that once gave me stability and solace. It often feels like an uphill battle, fighting desperately for my existence while grappling with the heartbreak of knowing that each passing day presents an even greater trial than the last.
The numbers itself paint a disturbing picture of my reality. I was told that the life expectancy for someone grappling with conditions such as mine hovers around the harrowing figure of just five years. When compounded with other existing health concerns, those statistics become more confounding and dire, turning a reflection on my surroundings into a daunting, incessant weight that I carry with me daily. It shatters my heart to think of it, shrouding my existence in a perpetual fog of anxiety and sorrow.
I find myself in urgent need of a home—not just any home, but a safe and nurturing sanctuary where I can prioritize my health, focus on healing, and care for my fur babies without the constant struggle that comes with simply existing. My deepest desire is to regain strength, find solace, and possibly endure long enough to slowly unravel the odds that have been laid out before me. I want to ensure that I have the chance to defy what statistics predict, motivated by hope and determination.
