Sierra Chrissis hasn't added a story.
June 7th, 2024 my whole world flashed before my eyes. 10:23pm I
received a phone call that I did not recognize and almost didn’t
answer, but something told me I needed too. The man on the phone told
me my soon to be husband had been in an accident and I needed to get
there as fast as I could. My stomach and heart dropped. I didn’t
understand. Daniel had just left the house to go help a stranger
change a tire that we had crossed paths with on our way home from my
birthday supper with my parents. I thought for sure he would be okay
and his injuries would be minor. Nothing could’ve prepared me for what
I would see when I got to the scene of the accident.
There my best friend was. He had been hit head on by a truck driving
north on the southbound side of the road. He was calling out for me,
with blood coming out of everywhere and his bone sticking out of his
arm. He wanted me to pray with him while we waited for the ambulance,
which we did. I had so many emotions, I was infuriated with the
driver, my heart was breaking seeing the strongest and toughest man
being put onto a stretcher. I felt so helpless because I couldn’t fix
him. Daniel’s brother and I found out that due to the extent of his
injuries he needed to be life flighted to a trauma hospital in the
Dallas area, over an hour away.
Once I arrived at the hospital I was greeted by the lead surgeon in
the emergency room and she told me he needed surgery right away
because his intestines were in his chest and his lung collapsed. A few
hours later, his team came into the waiting room and told us they were
going to wait until morning to send him to surgery and that he had
been intubated and that he was stable enough to wait a couple of
hours. Saturday morning he had his surgery and they followed up with
another to fix his arm. He woke up after so happy to be alive and
grateful that Easton and I were not in the car. Saturday night he
ended up needing a NG tube placed because he was not able to stop
vomiting. Sunday morning they took him down to surgery again to fix
his broken leg. Sunday was a hard day for him pain wise and he still
couldn’t keep anything down.
Monday morning I was able to talk to him briefly before I went to the
hospital to have an our baby girl. Monday night we welcomed Layla
Grace Renee Wilson into this world. It was a bittersweet moment
because I was so blessed to had just birthed the most perfect little
angel but Daniel wasn’t there and he was so excited from the moment we
found out we were expecting.
Monday and Tuesday his digestive track was not improving in the
slightest and the finally did a ct scan to see if internally something
was going on that would him to not be able to drink. Sure enough they
found his stomach back up in his chest cavity and 4 more hernias in
his abdomen along with one in his diaphragm. Wednesday morning he went
into surgery that we had expected to only last 2-3 hours but he did
not get out surgery until 4pm.
We are hoping Wednesdays surgery will be the last surgery he will need. I was also hoping I would be able to bring Layla up to see him today(Thursday) but we have decided to wait so we don’t run the risk of infection for her.
Daniel suffered a collapsed lunge, a hole to his diaphragm, his intestines in his chest cavity, broken ribs, broken wrist, his incision from a hernia repair a week ago that was ripped open, another hole to his diaphragm, his stomach in his chest cavity, and five more hernias that needed repair.
Through all of this Daniel has shown how strong, determined, and resilient he is.
Daniel’s recovery will be a long and intense road and we would
greatly appreciate any help that we can get as Daniel is the sole
breadwinner of our family.
