Since I was a little girl, I have had this dream of running a soup
kitchen. I grew up knowing that benevolence was going to play a big
role in my life. My heart just always seems to be pulled in the
direction of the homeless, impoverished, and those in need.
There is a large percentage of our county that is food
insecure. That means 1in 7 people don’t eat everyday. That number is
too high given the amount of food going to waste around us.
I
have a solution to help with some of the problem, though.
I want to offer something that’s never been here before: a restaurant with good food for breakfast and dinner that runs completely on donations from the public. If someone can afford to pay for their food, that’s great! We would gladly accept their donation to use it for God’s glory and help others.
If someone can’t pay for their food, that’s ok! We want them to eat anyway. If they’ll let us, we want to pray with them. We want to see if we can point them to any available resources and how we can help make their life better.
In order for us to do this, there are a lot of documents (501c3
and other papers) that have to be filed and paid for, just for us to
get this off of the ground and into a building. But, I believe It will
happen!!
I’ve always been reminded that
Jesus said “ I didn’t come to be served, I came to serve.” I love
that. If Jesus is willing to work for the kingdom in the capacity God
chose for him, so am I.
God laid this ministry on my heart years ago. In Matthew 15: 23-28, Jesus is speaking with a desperate woman…
“But he didn’t respond to her at all. His disciples came and urged
him, “Send her away; she keeps shouting out after us.” Jesus replied,
“I’ve been sent only to the lost sheep, the people of Israel.” But she
knelt before him and said, “Lord, help me.” He replied, “It is not
good to take the children’s bread and toss it to dogs.” She said,
“Yes, Lord. But even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall off their
masters’ table.” Jesus answered, “Woman, you have great faith. It will
be just as you wish.” And right then her daughter was healed.”
I have GREAT faith, big ideas, and big dreams. I believe that God is doing a move in Carteret County, and that He is going to use this ministry to help many people.
