During these difficult and uncertain times, the National City
community has turned to one another for support to survive the
economic hardship of COVID-19. Many Filipino families in National
City have been impacted by COVID-19, and are at risk of
houselessness. The City of San Diego has issued a temporary eviction
moratorium that has been extended to September 30, 2020, however
unemployed and underemployed Filipinos are unable to pay rent by
that date. Members of Anakbayan and Migrante San Diego have listened
to the struggles of our kababayan in National City and identified
the necessity of a Filipino Tenants Association. It is through
community respect, support, and collaboration that we aim to address
the growing concerns of the Filipino community in National City.
Our Goals:
- To create a community of Filipinos that will advocate for their needs as tenants
- To provide financial assistance to working class Filipinos facing housing and job insecurity in National City
- To unite the Filipino community against the San Diego rent increases and lack of government financial assistance during COVID-19
