I am Keiko Fujii, the director of Keiko Fujii Dance Company. I would like to ask for support for my New York dance company concert, "Soul Vibrations II" which is scheduled to be held in New York September 19th-21st, 2019.

First, let me introduce myself.
I am Keiko Fujii- Dancer, Dance Instuctor, Director & Choreographer for Keiko Fujii Dance Company. I work on the front lines of contemporary creative dance, mainly in Kansai, Japan. The company has done numerous performances in Japan and the United States. This year marks the 35th anniversary of Keiko Fujii Dance Company.

After studying dance abroad at Jones Ludin Dance Center in the United States, I worked independently and continued to perform in Honolulu, Hawaii. I returned to Japan in 1985, where I established a dance school called Studio K and formed Keiko Fujii Dance Company. Since then, I have performed with my dance company and done solo dance performances in Japan and the United States (mainly New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Hawaii).

I currently teach as a guest artist at the University of Hawaii, and work with dancers both in Japan and the US. I have started working with Keiko Fujii Dance Company in New York as well as Japan, continuting my work as an international artist, choreographer, and performer.

This year: New York!
My 13th New York Performance: “Soul Vibrations II” will be held at New York Gibney on September 19th- 21st to mark the 35th anniversary of Keiko Fujii Dance Company. The theme of this performance is to listen to the silence of the heart through collaboration of dance and music. Live music will be played by renowned Taiko drummer Kenny Endo. Music will also be featured by Tsugaru Shamisen player Hiroshi Kubo. Rehearsals and preparations for the concert began in April 2018 with select New York dancers of the Keiko Fujii Dance Company.

Reasons for the project
I want to create a stage that combines Japanese traditional art and Western dance in New York with
additional performing arts. In addition, I would like to send a message of hope and support across the world to everyone that needs aid. In everyone's mind there is a flame that burns for a reason. Find it and keep it burning. I believe it is my mission to continue to create. I want to ask for support to make this performance the best it can be.

Use of funds
The theater ticket income is expected to be $7,080.00 from this performance, but the total cost is US $20,600. With your help, we would like to raise the budget deficit of US $ 13,520.00.

Since our dance company in NY was established in January 2016, we rehearse in rented studios, since we do not have a fixed practice space. In addition, NY dancers currently rehearse regularly without being compensated for their time or efforts. The dancers are very spirited, however, and they work very hard in preparation for this performance.
Funds we receive go towards many costs including travel expenses, instrument transportation fee, other necessary expenses required to hold the performances (such as theatre fees, incidental facility use fees, lighting, sound, stage management, backstage labor fees, appearance fees), etc.
These are just a part of the expenses. Adding to the budget deficit for this performance are rehearsal fees, appearance fees, personnel expenses, travel expenses, advertising expenses (flyers, poster production costs, printing costs, distribution fees). Crowdfounding fees + tax are expected to be a part of the expenditure, and we are hoping to raise a total of $13,520.00.

When exceeding the target goals...
We will donate to the Unicef a portion of the amount that exceeds the target amount, minus fees and expenses. Since the formation of the dance company, we have held numerous performances over 34 years, donating earned money to disaster recovery and humanitarian support. We are still expanding that circle of support.

If we don't reach the target amount...
If the amount of funding received is lower than the desired amount in this crowdfunding project, we are planning on workshops around the world at the end of this year. Fujii is thinking of making up the difference with her income. This performance of "Soul Echo II-Soul Vibrations II" will be held to connect Japan and the US by dance.
