Dr. Rachel McKinnon is injured!

Rachel McKinnon is a philosophy professor, competitive cyclist, and trans woman. She is a role model for many athletes, and she's also well-respected in the trans community, in addition to her outstanding academic achievements. She lives in Charleston, South Carolina.

On Friday, July 20, at 9:35pm Pacific, Rachel posted a picture on Facebook of herself in a neck brace on a stretcher, giving a cheeky thumbs up, and telling us that she crashed at 60kph at a bicycle race. She later added that she has a broken scapula (shoulder blade).

My name is Danielle Muscato, I'm a civil rights activist verified on Twitter and Facebook, and I'm a friend of Rachel's. When I saw that she was posting on Facebook, I messaged her to ask—when she was able to talk about it—if she would like any help crowd funding, if needed.

She told me that she would appreciate the help, and gave me permission to launch an online fundraiser on her behalf. We do not yet know how much help she will need to get back on her feet and healed, but I'm going to get this thing started at $3,000 rather than wait for the exact number to come in, and we can go from there.

For verification - I am verified on Twitter with 88,000 followers. My handle is @DanielleMuscato and my Fundrazr and Twitter accounts are linked, so look for the automatically cross-posted tweet for proof this is really coming from me. I have successfully funded two other fundraisers on GoFundMe, both multi-thousand dollar crowdfunds, but chose this platform because we do not yet know how much she needs, and this platform allows her to withdraw at any time without having to meet a pre-specified goal.
