Hello, my name is Gary, Along with my partner we help run a small refugee group Called Care Without Borders. As part of our work a few years ago we had the pleasure of becoming friends with a young Man from the Gambia. Fanding Koringba Sanyang is from a close family in the Gambia but was forced to flee with nothing but that in which he stood . He and his family were the victims of a homophobic Government, whilst he was in full time education, Fanding's Mother took lodgers into the family home, those lodgers were reported to the authorities as being homosexual. This act of housing gay men was, at the time, illegal and the family were arrested, all property belonging to them confiscated and they were imprisoned. Fanding learnt of this outrage whilst in school and simply had to stand up and leave.
We learnt of his plight through our aid work and had the sometimes dubious pleasure of following Fanding's travels in search of safety via mobile phone for two years including many border crossings, arrests and hopes fulfilled and dashed.
He found himself in various camps and ghettos throughout Europe before making it to Germany where he is currently continuing his education and seeking an apprenticeship.
For the first time in many years, Fanding is reasonably settled although his immigration status still hangs in the balance. Following the recent change in the Gambian Government it is now possible for Fanding to start to rebuild his life and that of his family and this is where we can once more step up and lend a hand. Fanding is one of the lucky ones, he made it to safety, he found sanctuary when many others perished including close childhood friends of his so...We find ourselves in a position to help this young man, we have the opportunity to help him secure a decent life for his family to provide a family home in the land of his birth as any proud young man would wish to do, for his Mother and himself. The money raised from this appeal will be used to purchase building materials in the Gambia and build a home for Fandings family, we are expert at making a little go a long way and we can, with reasonably little effort help if not those who did not make it then just one, this one.
