UPDATE:
KKRP's own Bob Williams borrowed the funds and purchased the van for us, but our fundraising effort isn't done yet. We still need you to help us keep this van on the road. Please make a donation today.

Original request of need:

Two events, one on April 30th, 2014 involving a bomb threat at the Poteau, Oklahoma Elementary and High School, which resulted in the detention of two teens, and again on May 6th, 2014, namely at Carl Albert State College in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, regarding another bomb threat. Brought a hard reality to KKRP and the entire Star Com Radio Network by raising the issue "Why can't we cover these stories LIVE".

Though we covered the story more extensively than did our area full power radio and TV stations, these particular events showed we had a severe handicap in being unable to do a Live broadcast. Our investigative team did a tremendous job, but had to rely on call backs from law enforcement, the college and others. This delayed our coverage for as much as one hour. We need your support to make sure this does not happen again.

Community radio stations like KKRP are vital to the broadcast industry because these tiny stations focus on events that occur in their community and about their citizens. Be it a natural disaster, a late breaking story, government meeting, local events, to incidents like what happened May 6th. Only a small community station can cover the story and give it the proper coverage it deserves because unlike a full power station, which leaves the area to cover other stories for their large listeners and viewers, community radio stays with the story from start to finish because it affects that community and those listeners.

The money generated from this fund raising effort will be used in the purchase of a used mini-van to do " Live" news break-ins when and where these events happen and do it within minutes, not hours later.

Help us become the primary source of breaking news for these communities. The donation you make today could easily save a life tomorrow.
