On Wednesday morning, November 27th, tragedy struck when Mark Bunz had an accident with a javelina on his early morning ride. He sustained a broken scapula, a L1 compression fracture, and a hematoma to his bad hip.

Mark and Liz Bunz have been married for 16 years and they have two beautiful children: Dylan 9 and Gabrielle 6.

Mark's love for the bicycle was instantaneous as a child. It gave him the freedom to to explore the world around him and once he upgraded from his San Tropez BMX bike to his Redline, he crushed all the other kids in the neighborhood. The bike became his identity and his passion grew as he grew up.

Mark has raced on the mountain and road though the years. In his adult life the bicycle has become even more important to maintain his physical and mental health - from the fulfillment of joy he receives from being on the bike. Even after the hip injury last year, Mark pushed though and is just shy of 16,000 miles for 2013 - a huge accomplishment! Mark's passion for the bicycle brought him to his his current path of expert/master mechanic, that has also earned him a stellar reputation in the Valley and much deserved respect.

For those of you who know Mark, he is the type of individual who would give you the shirt off his back - always offering words of encouragement and motivation to fellow cyclists. Doctors expect Mark to make a full recovery but haven't given an infinitive timeline yet.

No individual should ever have to worry about providing for their family, especially during the holiday season. Let's join together as a cycling community and support one of our own in a time of need. Your donations and encouragement will be greatly appreciated and will help offset medical expenses.  Thank you for your support!
