I sit and watch the ceremonies of Benji's lodge and cry. He walks so tall and proud (6'5" now) and it seems just yesterday that he started pre-school. These years go too fast. I want all his dreams to come true and am determined to help. Will you help? More ...

Parents are usually proud of their children, and Benji's dad and I are extremely so. Our son is a 4.0 Honor Student, Order of the Arrow Chapter Chief  for Natsihi Chapter-Croatan Lodge, is Quartermaster for Sea Scout Ship 1117 of the Pamlico Sea Base, is certified in small boat sailing through The Little Washington Sailing School, and is now an Eagle Scout Candidate. Needless to say, he has worked very hard, and most of these accomplishments have been done by a 14 yr. old teen, in two years time.

Every Eagle Scout Candidate must plan, execute, and fundraise, a community service project. I am Benji's mom and his dad and I are so proud of all his out-standing accomplishments, even in the face of hard challenges.

Here is Benji's appeal, in his own words:

My name is Benji Cartee and I am a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. I am with Troop 30, Jarvis United Methodist Church in Greenville, NC. I have chosen to pursue one of the highest ranks in Boy Scouts; the rank of Eagle Scout. One of the achievement requirements for Eagle Rank is to successfully plan, raise funds for, and execute a service project that benefits the community. My project is to design and construct an environmental butterfly garden in front of the Walter L. Stasavich Science and Nature Center at River Park North. I chose this project because, according to environmental scientists, there is an ever-decreasing population of honeybees and their indispensable pollination. By attracting butterflies, we can address this pollen-shortage. My project garden will include perennials and herbs, thus providing native Eastern NC host plants and nectar plants, with needed butterfly pollen. The garden will also make the entrance of the science center more inviting and hopefully attract more visitors to the park. The garden will offer an added environmental educational resource for the park.

To fund my project, I need to raise approximately $900 and I am appealing for support. Are you interested in giving a financial donation? I would be grateful and appreciative if you could assist in my service project. With a donation, you will be helping the environment, beautifying the park and making it a resource the community can be proud of. The project is planned for the end of March and early April, 2014.

If you are considering a donation, please simply use the PayPal donation button below. You don’t have to have a PayPal account, all you need is my email, your own, and a debit/credit card. My email address is Also, I would be happy to review my project in more detail, if desired. Thank you for your consideration. I encourage you to come and see the finished project upon completion.

Yours in Scouting and On my Honor,

Benji Cartee
