Paul Wilcox hasn't added a story.
Hello and thank you for visiting our fundraiser to help our father, husband, friend etc. Paul Wilcox attend a 1 month high intensity speech therapy program in St. Petersburg FL.
First of all a HUGE Thanks to all of you who have helped us through this tough time and your continued support throughout. God bless you all
My father has been the rock of our family a great friend to many and an honest business owner with great respect. To our family he’s the sole provider and a great example of selfless living. He was very active and fit for a 54 year old although he did experience a lot of business pressures. The tough story started May 6, 2012 when at 8pm when my father had a stroke. It was caused by a cholesterol break off in the left carotid artery that block blood flow to one side of his brain. It was the worst call I (and I’m sure many others) received in my lifetime. I knew once I saw him at the hospital that whatever was happening was very serious. We went in faith and had the TPA administered to try and free the blockage but to no avail. Things progressed as the days went on to worst and worst news. On a stroke sale 1-30 our fathers stroke was a 28! 4 days in we were told the entire left side of his brain was no longer alive. Devastated as you could imagine. All the while we continued to find our strength through our faith in Christ. Comforted by friends and family, we had many biblical promises, visions from people of Paul recovering etc. and prayers that were going fourth for our family. He was predicted to not survive or if he did survive he was going to be a vegetable. We prayed for God to take him home if this was the case but thankfully God was not finished with him yet. Predicted to be in ICU for over 6+ weeks my father was out of there in 3+ weeks to a rehabilitation center in Newport RI. The road to recovery then painfully begun. The business Wilcox Excavation (WE DIG) was suddenly left to us to run. Thankfully through his previous training and lots of prayer we were able to continue on in strength. With over 1 year of physical and speech therapy my father is able to walk with a cane (he can even walk with out one sometimes) and he regained his drivers license back and is driving like a champ! Visions have come true and we are waiting for more to proceed. All throughout the year of therapy he was only able to say one word. The universal word Hallelujah! As time progressed the word was shortened to “Halle”. So that is what we hear him say all the time now! I never knew how that word could be used for so many things! Haha. His comprehension is doing so wonderful now. He understands over 90% of whatever is said. Just so happened that one of our clients/neighbor who happened to be a neurologist found out about Paul and has been helping us all along the way with treatment and recommendations. Thank God that even after all his years of experience with stroke victims and his personal expectations of my fathers recovery, our father has blow even him away with how far he's come. Now we are in a place to try to help regain my fathers speech. We have done research and found that High intensity repetitive speech therapy has been very successful. We know that this one time thing may not completely restore his speech but it would definitely be a stepping stone towards a highly anticipated full recovery. The money raised will be to pay for the actual program. My Aunt and Uncle live close by and they are kind enough to open their home for the 6 week program for my mother and father. We ask that if you have in any way been touch by the life of Paul Wilcox, you would join with us and him on this journey to restore his speech. Thank you all and God Bless you!
