April 27, 2013, Quang Pham was in a severe accident & life
flighted to OHSU. He was immediately admitted to ICU with multiple
injuries.
My, our, dad, Jeff Worley, was in a severe accident
April, 27, 2013 and was Life Flighted to OHSU in Portland, Oregon. He
was immediately admitted to the ICU. His injuries are numerous. He
remembers nothing of the accident, except a flash, really bad dreams,
screaming, and waking up to people loading him into a helicopter.
My Mom called me. It took her a while to speak. I remember her
saying, "Your dad is alive, but he's been in a severe accident
and has been Life Flighted to OHSU. I don't know anything else, I
don't know what's wrong, I don't know what happened, I can't find the hospital."
All I could feel was panic and fear. My daddy adopted me when I
was six, he was my rock, the man I look up to, my safe place. What if
he died? It wasn't like mom not to know anything, she always knows.
She was terrified when she called. She was in shock.
When we arrived at the hospital ICU, he was in a brace and
couldn't move. There were tubes, cords and machines everywhere. When I
saw him lying there looking frail and broken, my heart sank and my
eyes filled with tears that wouldn't stop. My mom wasn't crying, she
was in auto mode. My brothers and sister were quiet and scared.
We were told so many differing things, but what we now know is
that his injuries consist of a fractured, and splintered, shoulder in
a place that cannot bear any weight for 4-8 weeks. He also has a
severe pelvic fracture, and as with his shoulder, he cannot put any
weight on it for 4-8 weeks. If he does bear weight on those fractures,
the bones could displace and he will require surgeries that will
prolong his recovery time.
He also is suffering from multiple broken ribs, some severely
dislocated, as well as multiple spinal fractures, 10 of his vertebrae
are fractured. All of his injuries are on his left side, which is his
dominate side, so he is basically incapacitated. He was released from
the hospital when they were satisfied Mom had a "hospital
room" set up in a room of the house he could get to in a wheel chair.
He's now attempting to recover at home with professional help,
as well as with family. He requires several people to care for him
around the clock. He needs a lot of help just to get from his hospital
bed to his wheel chair, to a chair. I've never seen my Dad in so much
pain. He's always been able to do everything, now he can do nothing.
He's confined to the main level of his house in either a chair,
his hospital bed, or wheel chair. He cannot use crutches because his
shoulder fractures could displace the bones with the pressure. He is
unable to do the most basic daily functions people really don't think
of, like shaving and bathing.
My dad has always given to others and is a very compassionate
man that has never expected a thing in return. He is the father of 10
children, 7 of us are adopted and many have special needs. His main
focus in life has always been to provide for his family, employees and
clients. He's a hard worker dedicated to quality in every aspect of
his life.
Dad is a general contractor and will be unable to work
physically for quite some time. Due to the recent economic crisis, he
no longer has reserves to pay for even the basics of everyday life for
his family, not to mention the medical bills that will not be covered
by insurance from his horrible accident. No citations were issued, so
each insurance company is taking care everything separately.
We've created this fundraiser to help aid in the tremendous
financial need my Dad is soon to encounter, we need him to heal and
not to worry about how to feed his family, pay the bills needed to
keep his business license so he can provide for the family when he is
able to return to work, take care of the huge amount of uncovered
medical expenses, and other needs he and my family will encounter
because of this horrible accident.
Anything helps, though, even if it is just prayer and emotional
support. We do ask that you consider sharing this through Facebook
and/or Twitter and through email. Please help my Daddy, the one that
has always been the one to give and not take. I ask you to please help
give back to the one that's always been so generous and caring with others.
