Send Hellions of Troy Roller Derby to ECDX!
HELP THE HELLIONS MAKE THEIR DERBY DREAMS A REALITY!
Help the Hellions of Troy get to Philadelphia, PA to compete in the East Coast Derby Extravaganza (ECDX), “…a large-scale women’s flat track roller derby event featuring a weekend full of competition with teams from across the US, as well as Canada, the UK, and beyond.” The Hellions became full members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association in December of 2012. The League entered into a lottery of over 100 leagues from across the world to compete in WFTDA sanctioned bouts at ECDX and were lucky enough to be chosen!
This means that the Hellions will be competing in two sanctioned bouts over the course of the weekend against the River City Rollergirls from Richmond, Virginia and the Lowcountry Highrollers from Charlestown, South Carolina, but first…we need your help!
Why should you help us?
Besides the fact that we are collectively a friendly, fun bunch who gives great hugs, transporting and lodging a charter of 15+ skaters isn’t cheap. One of the beautiful things about roller derby is that most leagues are completely skater run and operated, meaning that we do what we do for the love of the sport. This also means that we are wholly responsible for supporting ourselves, whether that is through fundraising or paying out of pocket for practice space, uniforms, travel and lodging.
Fortunately, we have some truly incredible fans and friends who also support us and enable us to do what we love the most: play roller derby. That’s where you come in!
Where does your money go?
Donations will help us cover transportation and lodging costs for our skaters.
Transportation: carpooling skaters will travel approximately 450 miles round trip.
Lodging: two nights in a hotel. We're not strangers to 6+ people to a room, but we're shooting to raise enough so everyone gets a spot on a bed!
Just think:
• Donate $5 and support the purchase of some healthy roadtrip snacks.
• Donate $10 and offset the cost of lodging for a Hellion.
• Donate $50 and give an exhausted Hellion a bed to sleep in for two nights
• Donate $70 and ensure that a car full of Hellions has enough fuel to get to and from ECDX
The possibilities are endless! No donation is too small. Help us represent the capital district at the national (even international!) level (did we mention teams from SCOTLAND are playing?!)
Who are the Hellions of Troy?
The Hellions of Troy Roller Derby League, formed in 2008, is part of the modern women’s roller derby phenomenon. We are dedicated to making the sport as fast, strategic, and gripping as possible. We are 100 percent skater owned and operated, with members running all aspects of league management, including bout production, coaching, public relations, and merchandising. We are always looking for new skaters, refs, and volunteers to join the league.
We strive to promote athleticism and camaraderie among our skaters through competitive sport, regular practice, and do-it-yourself organization and management. We became full members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) in December 2012.
