Her story: On an ordinary day in 2006, I walked into the kitchen to see my tiny daughter scooting around our kitchen floor on a pair of wheeled LEGOs. When I asked her what she thought she was doing, she smiled and replied: "I'm Ice Skating. Ice Skates, daddy, see?" I thought: wonderful. What I knew about ice-skating: Ice is cold, ice is hard, you fall down. We took her to a public skating session. My back screamed after three times around the rink. She didn't want to stop. Clearly, we didn't have "a natural" on our hands: she could barely walk. But she wouldn't stop. We signed her up for Learn to Skate lessons. She was terrible and cried. A Lot. Seriously a lot. But she wouldn't get off the ice. Slowly, she got better. We had to move facilities because the first place wasn't open all year. At the next facility, she was spotted by one of the coaches. It only made things worse (for me. oh yeah, and our bank accounts). After a few years, she started to compete and it turns out my initial assessment was inaccurate: She was a diamond in the rough. She's quickly approaching the next level and is on her way to an Olympic dream. So, I am asking for help. For Grace. Skates cost $250 a pair, blades are $150 more. Lessons cost an average of $50 a day, $250 a week. Ice Time costs $100 a week. Competition fees are $200 a competition, she does about 5 a year right now. If you can help in any way,... we'd like to show her the Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in 2014. We've been setting pennies and nickels aside, and her mom has taken a job at the ice skating rink to reduce the cost of ice. Can you help?
