Dima and Inessa Melnyk are native Ukrainians who serve in Ukraine as CRU missionaries.
Before the war, they served daily doing a sports-based children's
ministry. They also worked with several other ministries in their
church, including a youth ministry and a church cafe ministry (which
Inessa opened 2 and a half years ago).
When the war started,
they stayed in Ukraine so as to help others in any way they could.
They quickly saw the need to evacuate people that were stuck in
country with no vehicle, so Dima and Inessa gave away their life
savings and borrowed money from friends to buy a van to start
shuttling people to safety. It was a step of faith and they took the
risk. Dima began to travel to active war zones to pick up women and
children and take them to safety. He also started taking food and
medicine to people who are still in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
Several other men with their vans joined in with evacuating people
and bring back much-needed supplies. In one case, they coordinated 9
vans to go into a city, evacuate 90 children and take them to safety.
This is a very dangerous and expensive undertaking. Gas is not easy
to get, and the gas they can get is expensive. They have to pay for
most of the food and medicine they bring in, in addition to the help
they get from other countries. Inessa took over the job of making
phone calls to find out where the people who needed to be evacuated
were at, to help organize the drivers.
Inessa and Dima are
serving as a family with all their hearts, and are wanting to help
by sharing the gospel with everyone in this massive time of need.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this. If you would
like to donate to help save people and provide medicine and food for
those in need, your help will be greatly appreciated! Something to
keep in mind: The US Dollar goes a lot further over there. 1 US
Dollar is the equivalent of 29 Ukanian Hryvnia (the Ukrainian
currency), so what is a little bit to us can make a big impact when
put to use in Ukraine.
Please continue to pray specifically for
the people of Ukraine and the drivers who are evacuating and risking
their lives to save many.
