Hello, I’m Abbie Sulit-Tuazon, eldest daughter of Edward “Ed” Sulit, 68 years old, Filipino citizen.
Last 30 September 2020, after weeks of treatment, my father underwent leg amputation as a result of having diabetes and kidney failure.
The
operation was successful but he needs to undergo blood transfusion as
his hemoglobin count became low. Also, costly antibiotics is still
required to be taken daily after the operation due to the presence of
bacteria in his blood that might affect his recovery. Simultaneously,
he is also required to regularly undergo dialysis to filter and purify
his blood.
My father do not have an insurance, hence, hospitalization expenses are currently being paid out of our pockets. As at today (4 October 2020), total hospital expenses is already Php 416K or $8,500 and still counting.
I’m writing this story in the hopes of gathering financial support to help my father in his current hospitalization expenses and continuous maintenance.
We believe that there is no donation too big or too small – any donation would go a long way towards his recovery. Also, we know that this pandemic won’t stop a generous heart. Just a brief background about my father - Ed is a loving husband, father and grandfather. Despite being a senior citizen (68 years old), he still chose to work in order to provide for his family and to be self-sufficient for his maintenance medications. He love his family unconditionally and made it his life’s mission to build a fulfilling and great life and home for us.
Then it all started with a wound in his feet that does not seem to go well after several days that eventually became swollen. Last 22 September 2020, my father was rushed to the hospital as he felt an extreme pain in his feet and he can no longer walk properly. As the doctors tried to cure the wound in his feet, the hospitalization expenses also went up and up each day. The doctors gave several costly antibiotics that were required to be taken thrice a day (daily antibiotics cost around PHP 24K. In addition, he also underwent several dialysis sessions for almost thrice a week.
30 September 2020 - the doctor said the antibiotics no longer penetrate in my father’s feet, hence, they found no option but to amputate his leg to avoid the possible spread of infection.
The operation was successful but his hemoglobin count went low, as such, blood transfusion will be scheduled in the next days. Also, they still found bacteria in his blood which means that he still needs to take some costly antibiotics. Further, he will also undergo arteriovenous (AV) graft in relation with his ongoing dialysis.
Our family is currently having a difficult time paying for the lengthy hospital stays and medications. Total billing from the hospital as at today, 4 October 2020 is Php 416K or $8,500 and still counting.
All we want is for our father to get better and live a normal life with us again. We are humbly asking for your prayers and any help you can provide to help him survive this battle.
