Hello my name is Michael Lewandowski. I worked for the Town of Huntington NY Public Safety for 14 years. During this time I helped protect life and property in the town. Over the years I was a target of constant abuse from management. 2 years ago I reported several wrong doings and violations of the law to county, state, and federal agencies in hopes these issues would be corrected. These issues include discrimination, retaliation, having us do things we are not legally allowed to do, safety concerns, and things that are morally wrong such as ticketing people for violations they where not guilty of. Sadly these issues were not corrected and I became the victim of more abuse. Several changes had been made how we did our job to serve the community and it had a negative effect. A new online reporting system was put in place for people to voice their concerns and this could be done anonymously. I wanted to try and make positive changes to how these concerns were addressed and made anonymous complaints myself. The complaints went ignored so I had exaggerated some complaints in hopes it would get the attention the issues deserved. The town chose to instead of address the issues they got the police involved and had me arrested and fired for this. Now I have lost my job, health insurance, pension, and will be homeless in 2 months due to loss of my job. My union chose not to help me and now I am stuck with a $3500 layer bill to fight the criminal charges against me in court so I can stay out of jail  and provide for my family. On top of that to fight for my job back a labor attorney wants $10,000 to handle my article 75 hearing in which there is no guarantee I will even get my job back. All I wanted to do was stop illegal activity, hold those responsible accountable for their actions, and fight for our rights as employees that we legally deserve. I am no saint and made a mistake but my intentions were good. Please help a father of 3 young children continue to provide for his family and stay off the street and out of jail.
