I am running for Southold Town Trustee, because as Trustee I can help keep Southold Southold by protecting and restoring its natural greatness.

Southold is deeply rooted its land and history. Trustees' decisions affect an important part of the land: our wetlands and our shoreline.

If I'm elected, I'll do my best to protect Southold Town by protecting and helping restore the wetlands, bays and sound that are a key part of why we love Southold.

I'll also protect Southold town by protecting Southolders' centuries-old right to experience our shoreline.

Last, I'll protect Southold town by respecting private property rights, within the limits set by the letter and the spirit of the law.

An effective campaign includes ads in the Suffolk Times and ideally Southold Local, palm cards, yard signs, a mailer--it adds up quick. I am hoping to raise $8,000; so far I have raised about $3,600. I hope you can help.

There's a link below where you can contribute; or better still make a check out to Southold Town Democratic Committee and mail them to P.O. Box 68, Cutchogue, NY 11935.  As I receive checks I will up date this online campaign by lowering the goal (that's why the goal isn't $8k now).

Background on Trustees

The postition of Trustee is quite old; it predates the American Revolution. Trustees continue to give Southolders direct democratic control over shoreline development and shoreline hardening. Both issues are extremely important given the ever increasing local development pressures and climate change.

Trustees' jurisdiction extends to our 'common lands', that area landward 100' from the water or wetlands. Through our enforcement of the wetland and related codes, we have power to make a real difference.

Our current Trustees do a reasonably good job. But they could be more proactive, more science-based, more transparent, and ultimately, more effective. I can help in each of those areas.

The Opportunity

My chances of winning are better than normal, becase this is a special election coinciding with a Congressional/Gubenatorial/State Legislature/County election. That combination makes it more likely that Democratic voters will turn out or could be turned out.

Nonetheless, winning is a challenge. So I hope you will contribute what you can.

Again, there's a link below, or you can make a check out to Southold Town Democratic Committee and mail it to P.O. Box 68, Cutchogue, NY 11935. As I receive checks I will update this online campaign by lowering the goal.

Thanks again for your consideration.
