Loving Each Day Survivor hasn't added a story.
I have an auto-immune disease that causes severe joint pain. In the course of seeing specialists to determine exactly what was causing this, I went to a new primary care doctor...and she found a lum in my breast. So on the day before my birthday a few years ago...I got cancer. Well, in truth the cancer had been growing for months...but the tests confirming cancer were pending. I was waiting for the results and called my doctor to see if she had received the tests back. I was determined to find out that day because I did not want to "get cancer for my birthday". That would be a horrible "gift". And I got wahat I thought I wanted...the diagnosis of breast cancer.
Not just any kind fo breast cancer, but Triple Negative...meaning that chemo was the only option and I couldn't take the tamoxifen and other drugs that others could. Well, that sucked! But at least I could begin to heal.
So I had both of my breasts removed, had reconstructive surgery at the same time and began 16 sessions of heavy chemo. About week 2 I developed a seroma and had to go back in for draining. Then I developed a serious infection in the tissue expanders and they needed to be removed...another surgery? Check! The doctor offered to reconstruct them again later...but I declined...it was just too much!
During chemo I lost my hair, took all kinds of steroids and anti-nausea medication and lived life in a fog. Weekly medication costs were high even though I had insurance but I did not apply for help...becasue I knew someone in a woprse positon than me needed funding more. I also missed quite a bit of work, but made every effort to keep up.
As I finished my treatment and my hair grew back I started to realize my new "normal". I no longer needed a bra, I could take off my breasts when I wanted to (which is actually nice!). The down side is that most of my tops and shirts needed to be replaced because I have so many scars and an uneven chest from all the surgery...no more V necks or scoop necks for me! But I am LIVING...so that is great! And chemo knocked out my auto-immune issue...for awhile.
Now I am supposed to be back to "normal" but my auto immune is back...turns out it is degenerative disk disease and ankylosing spondylitis. I have all kinds of meds to take - but I can't take the ones that really help (biologicals) because of the previous cancer, and I am struggling to pay off the debt I incurred while I had cancer. I work a full time job and am struggling! I should have taken advantage of assistance when it was offered...but hindsight is always 20/20.
I need to pay off over $50,000 and am hoping for some help. Every check is gone before the next and it's is just so sad to think that at the rate I am going I won't be paid off for decades! If you could spare a very small amount me to put a dent in my situation. Every penny counts and no doanation is too small.
I am completely embarassed to have to ask for this help and it has taken me a year to do so. I appreciate that you took the time to read this and will be forever grateful for each penny given.
Godspeed!
