Dawn Cardinal hasn't added a story.
Purple now know as Penelope "MS P" was pulled from NYC MACC on new years eve 2013. She was brought into the shelter as a stray on 12/20/13 and sat in agony for two weeks with severe injuries because she was hit by a car, she had a execellent evaluation in spite of her severe injury to her right front leg. Due to the lack of care she recieved at the NYC ACC, by the time she made it out and was brought to the vet her right front leg could not be saved, she had a deep laceration & infection had set in, she is now a tripod and I love her so much. There are many recomendations for her disabilty and a wheelchair and ramps are the most expensive. Your donations can help me get these things faster than if I werfe to do it on my own. She has suffered enough & I just want her to have the best life which is what she deserves. Please read the actual staff report from NYC ACC.
A staff member writes: Purple is a shy, petite, and quiet girl. In spite of the fact that she is very housetrained, right now Purple has to be coaxed out of her kennel for her daily walks. Not surprisingly, our valiant young lady has a bit of difficulty with mobility. As well, she may be feeling a bit out of sorts from the effects of her current pain medication. But she does adeptly manage her way around. Yesterday we walked as far as the garage where Purple peed a river and then simply sat down. She is improving daily. Unable to put any weight on her right front leg, she hops with determination from spot to spot, Today we made it outside to the parking lot and this time there was a bit of exploring before Purple peed a river and then sat down. She is understandably more comfortable when sitting versus balancing on three legs. When I sat down next to her she pressed very closely against me before trying unsuccessfully to curl into my lap. (That big cone head does not make manuveuring very easy.) But Purple seems to take it all in stride. A lovely fragile miss who wants comforting and contact more than anything, Purple graced me with a tiny lick when I stroked her face. She loves to be pet. What a privilege getting to know her. As marred as her body appears, Purple is an astonishing beauty and her eyes are expressive beyond words. When we silently sit and watch the birds or listen to the street sounds, Purple's expression is forlorn, yet tender. Perhaps she's dreaming of a better time: the time when her heavy heart and unlucky body are healed. And it can't come soon enough. Meanwhile, Purple patiently waits.
Penelope aka Purple is now in my home and is thriving, the vet has recomended many things to help her now that she has lost her right front leg & a wheelchair is one of them. I love her more than anything and want whats best for her. When our pack goes out for walks she has great difficulty half way through due to her disablity, a wheelchair would help her with walks and also to preserve her remaining limbs now that all the wieght of her body is put on them. Ramps are suggested so she wont jump down from furniture or beds and put all that stress on remaining joints. Please donate to Penelope she is the most amazing dog in the world !!!!
