Heather Cunningham-Wheeler hasn't added a story.
After being received in Minot the Trauma team and other medical staff decided that the University of Minneapolis was a better choice for her. She was then Medevaced again to Minneapolis with Dennis accompanying her. Upon arrival in Minneapolis Krystal was admitted to the ICU.
Her injuries are extensive but first let me state that she has been awake and alert throughout. She is able to have conversations and is aware of what has happened and what is to come. She is able to move her toes and fingers and legs. This is all VERY GOOD and proves that both her brain and spinal cord is undamaged. :)
Krystal's injuries are: one large laceration to her forehead with small ones on the left side of her face. She has multiple scrapes some small some large over her face with the largest on the left side. The rest of her body has scrapes and bruises over the front of her. She broke her left pinky and has small cuts, scrapes and bruises on both hands. She has some significant fractures to her back, the T7 and T8 vertebrae have multiple fractures. These fractures have not damaged her spinal cord. She has a fracture in her neck and it is being classified as minor. Her spleen has a laciation. She broke 3 ribs and one of these ribs has punchured her left lung.
Upon admition to the hospital in Minneapolis she had to have a chest tube placed because her lung had collapsed. After this was done she said she felt better and was breathing easier.
Currently Krystal has gone through her surgery and has been fitted with a Turtle Shell brace and she is still wearing the C collar.
Dennis Wheeler and Susan Richmand are staying in Minneapolis with Krystal. Krystal wants them there for as long as they can be, however this may not be possible if we are looking at long term. We will keep our fingers crossed that that is not the case. In the mean time family and friends have been so very kind in helping with expenses. We don't know what the finally bill will be but can only imagine that the price will be very high. Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Dennis and Heather Wheeler
