Erica Brown hasn't added a story.
Since October, 2012 we have saved 23 dogs from high kill animal control agencies. 13 of them have needed medical intervention above and beyond spay/neuter, shots, etc.
Achilles (aka Major) - 3 year old Chihuahua who had a broken femur, broken hip socket and subluxated hip.
Wyatt (aka Davoo) - a Boxer/Mix puppy who had a baseball sized mast cell tumor on his shoulder that he had been chewing on to get it off of him.
Xavier (aka Herbert) - a Poodle who had a broken back and was both fecal and urinary incontinent. We ended up having Xavier euthanized because he was in an excessive amount of pain, even after being given pain killers. There was nothing that we could do for him but to give him love and peacefully let him go.
Ramona (aka Vodka) - 4 year old Pit Bull who had a cancerous tumor.
Juno (aka Beauty) - 7 year old Husky/Mix who was transported to us from out of state. She has a grade 4 heart murmur and is in renal failure.
Violet - a young Pit Bull who was confiscated from her owner severely emaciated, and fecal and urinary incontinent due to a large impaction. She had bone cancer that was eating away at her spine and to compensate she started growing calcification between her vertebra which fused them together so she could not move. We were able to provide her with love and a peaceful end to her suffering.
Chico - a senior American Staffordshire who was left chained in a basement when his family left the country. He had several cancerous tumors that had to be removed.
Charlotte - A 9-month old Lab / Pit Bull mix who was abandoned outside of a local animal control overnight. She has a grade 5 heart murmur and a subaortic stenosis. There is no medical intervention available for her condition and she will live out her life in a Save Haven/Sanctuary foster home.
Bentley - young Shepherd / Mix puppy who survived the odds. He has survived being thrown into a sewer canal to drown with his mother and puppies, a parvo out-break which killed some of his siblings, and has to wear a brace on one leg to help support some weak ligaments that were causing him to bow.
Zoe (aka Mitzy) - a 3 year old Puggle/mix who was chained outside for her whole life and started chewing on her tail as a result. Part of her tail had to be amputated and she is undergoing heartworm treatment.
Bialy - an 8 week old Beagle/Jack Russell mix who has no use of her hind limbs. She has a T11/12 subluxation with T11 caudal endplate fracture causing severe weakness and incoordination of both pelvic limbs. She is wearing a brace and will re-visit her neurologist in the next couple of weeks to check for progress.
Xena - a 6-month old Pit Bull with a deformed front foot; everybody calls it her lobster claw.
Slicer - a 7 month old Pyrenees who has little use of her hind limbs. She can scoot and run around but can not stand straight up. She is always in a squatting / sitting position. She either has severely dislocated patellas or none at all. Her legs are also very atrophied.
All of these dogs have been evaluated by veterinarian's most of them have already had some type of surgical intervention. Our veterinary bills are high as a result and they will continue to grow with the addition of Xena and Slicer into rescue.
Please consider donating to their medical care and help them heal.
