Last summer I volunteered in South Africa and met a group of children who completely changed me. Despite growing up with very limited resources, they are full of joy, resilience, and big dreams for their future. I promised them I would come back, and I hope to keep that promise.
I am currently studying medicine, and experiences like this shape the kind of doctor I hope to become, someone who understands communities, cares deeply about people, and works to improve lives beyond the hospital. Returning to South Africa would allow me to keep supporting these children through education, mentorship, and by helping provide essentials like food and school materials that can improve their daily lives.
This experience will have a huge impact on my education and future career, helping me better understand global health challenges, inequality, and the importance of compassionate care. I want to make a difference in the community by supporting their learning, spending time with them, and contributing to opportunities that help them grow and thrive.
I chose this destination because the connections I built there were incredibly meaningful. These children are no longer just part of a volunteer program to me, they are people I truly care about, and the second home to my heart. Going back is meaningful because it means continuing to support them and being part of their journey toward a brighter future.
Although I work throughout the year to raise money for this trip, with my medical studies it's very difficult to reach the full goal on my own, that's why any donation, no matter how small, will help me return and continue supporting these amazing kids.
