Jack is sober but still needs help!
It has been clear for over a year now that Jack needs to be in a rehab program for alcohol and drug addiction. However, after every life threatening crisis, when Jack was willing to receive treatment - and that psychological window is a narrow one - there was a barrier, like two-to-four month waiting lists. Although he managed to get on waiting lists a number of times, when his name came up, Jack no longer thought he needed treatment and rejected it.
However, after the most recent crisis, the family was able to get him in to Pacific Ridge Treatment for one month.
At $925/day, two weeks was all the family could afford to pay
But Jack needed more in-patient time there for the treatment to be effective- at least a month. Jack's family does not have the financial resources to pay for the care that Jack so critically needs.
After the month of treatment, Jack is transitioning to an intensive out-patient program called Turning Points Recovery Services in Bend, OR, and moving to a sober living house which will support his efforts to remain in treatment and sober. Turning Points will provide Jack daily recovery classes, and medical and psychological services, which in turn will help him to maintain a new and healthy sober lifestyle. This will allow Jack to pursue his plan to acquire job skills and find work in the construction field.
Now that addiction is more commonly seen as a disease that can be helped with treatment, the stigma is fading. I am grateful that Jack's family has the courage to ask for help for their son. Alcoholism/addiction is one of the most dangerous and rising health issues in the country. Fifty percent of people who are trying to get treatment in Oregon are unable to access it because of a lack availability and the cost.
Your contribution, no matter how great or small, can help us secure the extra time and care that Jack needs to get his health back.
We will keep you posted about Jack's progress and how your contribution has helped us with our goal.
About Jack:
I taught Jack's seventh and eighth grade choir class, and Jack always stood out to me as one who loved to sing. He was always so kind and genuine.
Jack is a sweet soul and a keen sense of humor. He loves hiking in the outdoors, sailing, playing guitar, and playing chess. The alcoholism and addiction have taken these away.
