Steffinie Lyngdoh, a friendly and once vivacious 17-year-old living in Umroi, a small city in the state of Meghalaya, India, is severely ill with an unknown disease and is running out of options. Steffinie’s family once showed me, a complete stranger, remarkable kindness and compassion at a moment of personal crisis. I am presenting this request for donations on their behalf in an attempt to live up to the values they embodied during my time of need.
Since April of this year, Steffinie has not been able to walk
and doctors are unable to find a diagnosis for her. Steffinie has
become fed up with going from doctor to doctor, and still knowing
very little about her sickness. If any doctors are reading this,
please contact us and we can provide medical records for review.
Having made no progress with medical diagnosis and treatment despite
having incurred considerable hospital fees, Steffinie has now
resorted to asking all family and friends to pray for her.
Her family wishes to take her to a specialized hospital in a neighboring state in hope to get a diagnosis and treatment. However, they are now running out of funds.
This time of the year should be a time for Steffinie to be joining university after graduating high school (click here for her results). However, she is now too sick to even walk, let alone study. Currently she is being looked after by her family and each day is experiencing pain in her bones and joints. Her condition is worsening each day.
Just a few days ago, her hemoglobin count was very low. This is
why we are trying to raise £3000 in just 14 days. Time is not on her side.
So, why am I here?
My name is Anthony and I am here because back in 2011, my girlfriend died in a sudden accident in the state of Meghalaya, Northeast of India. A few months later, in the height of my grief, I received a message from a girl on social media. This was Lapynbiang, a young Khasi woman who was a tourist guide in the area in which my girlfriend had died. She had learned about the accident in the local news. Even though we had never met, her compassion drove her to search for me so that she could personally send me her condolences after hearing about the accident.
Below is a photo of me revisiting India and going back to the state of Meghalaya in 2014,
Ten years later, we are still in contact and I am now seeking to extend the compassion and kindness she once extended to me in my time of great need. Lapynbiang, Steffinie’s aunt, has contacted me to help raise funds from the international community as restrictions in India make online fundraising very difficult.
We understand many of you are also struggling to make ends meet yourselves in these trying times. However, every little donation will help us reach our goal of £3000 in just 7 days.
To all of those who generously donate, you will be helping a young, bright Indian girl travel with her family to a decent hospital and receive better healthcare so hopefully she can finally receive a diagnosis and then begin to have the appropriate treatment so that she can go on to her studies at university.
I believe in the interconnectedness of all beings and this is why I am here today speaking with honesty of my connection with Steffinie. The death of my girlfriend in 2011 has brought me here to help raise funds for a mother and father that desperately need financial help for their daughter.
We are all so grateful for your compassion in donating. However, we are also sorry. We cannot offer you anything in exchange for your generosity. We can however, provide everyone who has kindly donated an update on Steffinie’s progress on Fundrazr and the Facebook group below:
Lastly, please share this page to as many people as you can as this will help us raise the money as quickly as possible so that Steffinie can get the hospital treatment she deserves.
On behalf of Steffinie, Lapynbiang and I, we wish you all well.
Thank you.
